8 Reasons E-Bikes Help Deer Hunters

E-bikes arrived on the hunting scene for a reason. Rather, they did so for numerous reasons. Simply, they help solve problems, and there are quite a few reasons why e-bikes help deer hunters. Here are eight of those.

Increasing Stealth

Game animals aren’t stupid. When they see a human figure walking, they know what’s up. That’s especially true for pressured areas. Riding an e-bike might throw them off, and could result in a lesser reaction than a hunter merely walking.

Decreasing Noise

Deer learn and recognize the two-step cadence hunters use in the woods. An e-bike offers a different sound they aren’t used to. Some even says it mimics the sounds of deer running and chasing. Obviously, it helps mask the sound of an approaching hunter and won’t sound like the usual walk of a hunter. Additionally, e-bikes are much quieter than gas-powered ATVs and UTVs, or even electric models.

Reducing Scent

Ground scent is a factor. So is direct wind scent. Deploying an e-bike helps reduce both of these. Riding obviously decreases the ground scent deposited from walking. It also decreases direct wind scent due to a faster entry and exit route time with riding versus walking.

Tackling Terrain

Walking long distances into and out of a hunt area isn’t always easy, especially in difficult terrain. A good, reliable e-bike makes tackling terrain such as hills and hollows, or even just a long distance, much easier. Let that raw power take the bigger bites out of entry and exit routes.

Carrying More Gear

E-bikes make it simpler to carry more gear into the field. Some even offer shelves or tow-behind features to haul necessary things in and out of the field. These e-bikes unburden hunters, too, effectively reducing unwanted sweat.

Covering Greater Distances

Some hunting spots are out of reach due to lengthy walking distances. With an e-bike, they are in reach. Having one of these on hand opens up possibilities that weren’t available without these useful tools.

Conserving Energy

Walking to and from hunting spots takes energy. An e-bike helps conserve it, which keeps you fresh for the hunt, and whatever else on your to-do list after it. That has a lot of value in and of itself.

Recovering Game

Some e-bikes include tow packages, of sorts. These allow for pull-behind trailering. With that, and depending on motor and tire sizing, hunters might use an e-bike to get harvested game out of the field.

Of course, there are other benefits of purchasing an e-bike. But these are the major reasons to consider, among smaller more nuanced advantages. Keep that in mind going into the next hunting season.

I’ve been an outdoor communicator since 2010. Since then, I’ve been blessed with a full-time career in the outdoors, and I’ve worked for most of the major hunting magazines and websites, including Field & Stream and Outdoor Life. As a deer and turkey hunter, these are the topics I cover most, but I also dabble in other areas, too, including conservation, predator hunting, small game hunting, and more.
