A lifelong outdoorsman and passionate angler, Stuart Wright has spent more than four decades pursuing fish across New York's lakes, rivers, and streams. A native of Elmira, New York, Stuart developed his love for fishing at an early age, chasing smallmouth bass in the Chemung River before expanding his adventures to the waters of Cayuga Lake, where his family owned a lakeside camp. It was on Cayuga Lake that Stuart's passion for fishing truly took hold. He spent countless hours targeting smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, and Atlantic salmon, developing the knowledge and instincts that come only from years on the water. While his fishing adventures have taken him after numerous freshwater and saltwater species, Stuart's greatest passion is pursuing lake-run steelhead, brown trout, and salmon in New York's legendary Salmon River. From September through May, he can be found on the river most weekends, hiking miles of rugged riverbank in search of fish, often in some of the harshest weather conditions Upstate New York has to offer. Equally comfortable with traditional fly fishing and centerpin techniques, Stuart brings decades of hands-on experience to his fishing gear reviews, offering practical insights into the equipment, techniques, and conditions that matter most to serious anglers.1 Articles
Richard has spent the past two decades working physically demanding jobs, including time on an ambulance and as a low-voltage technician. Much of that work took place outdoors or in unfinished environments, where reliable gear isn’t optional—it’s part of getting the job done safely and efficiently. In parallel with his hands-on work, he has built a career as a freelance writer, focusing on practical, experience-based content. His writing draws on firsthand knowledge of the conditions and constraints that working professionals face, with an emphasis on what actually holds up over time. Outside of work, he spends time outdoors, where the same standards apply: gear needs to be durable, functional, and suited to real conditions.1 Articles
Although relatively new to the review stage, John is not new to the outdoors. As a 50+ year hunting, hiking and outdoor sports enthusiast, John has put many miles in the woods and on the trails. His primary passion is all types of shooting sports, with a good healthy dose of boating, skiing, and lots of other outdoor activities. John’s review writing is geared toward the average, everyday enthusiast looking for good, honest feedback that matters to those who use the products the most, not necessarily the expert professionals. John looks at the products from a value perspective, using his years of experience using similar products to give the reader a real, useful assessment of a product. As someone who is not afraid to spend real money on quality gear, but hates wasting money on over-hyped, over-priced gear, his reviews offer the reader a refreshing take on the cost vs benefits of a product.1 Articles
