As a female hunter, finding gear with a feminine fit, that is comfortable and warm is hard to come by. After wearing my older brother’s hand-me-downs hunting clothes and a number of different brands said to be designed for women, I landed upon DSG clothing. This brand of women’s apparel is made and designed by women for women. Their products are the best hunting gear for women I have found. Not only are their products made for women they are also size inclusive with their sizes ranging from XS-5XL.

I have tried a number of DSG products throughout this hunting season spanning from early October to late November. During that time, I also compared these items to items I have worn and used in the past. The products below highlight a few of my favorite items that DSG offers. They are the best hunting gear for women in the market today, providing the essentials to a comfortable yet practical hunting outfit.

I was able to stay warm on a cool November day while scoring this buck wearing the Breanna 2.0 Fleece Pullover, Ava 2.0 Softshell Pant with Cell Pouch and Cold Weather Neckwarmer.

    Breanna 2.0 Fleece Pullover

Out of all the DSG products I used while afield last fall, my favorite item would be the Breanna 2.0 Fleece Pullover. It is a heavy weight pullover, with a quite exterior that is DWR treated to help shed water. It features a soft fleece interior making the pullover warm and comfortable while worn afield all day long

This fleece camo pullover is great as it can be worn on its own on the warmer days or underneath a jacket providing a great layer of warmth on colder days. I wore this pullover on its own while Moose hunting in early October, as well as an under layer while sitting in the deer blind in late November, and for every hunt in-between. I am also looking forward to wearing this pullover while ice fishing in the shack over the winter and in the boat when fishing in the early spring. Making this a high-quality versatile item to have in your closest for not only hunting season but year-round.

    Breanna 2.0 Fleece Pullover
The Breanna 2.0 Fleece Pullover with the quarter zip feature makes for a great option for early season hunting when it is cold in the mornings and evenings and warm in the afternoons.

    Pros:

    • It comes in a variety of camo patterns and black
    • It is quiet; not making any noises while moving
    • It is waterproof
    • It has a two-way kangaroo pouch
    • It has an adjustable/removeable hood and adjustable cuffs
    • It has an incredibly soft interior proving to be comfortable
    • It is warm
    • It is easy to clean
    • It has a 2-year warranty as a result of manufacturing defects
    • Patch kits are available in the event you rip your gear

    Cons

    • It may be too warm when hunting in the early season
    • It is a bit costly
    • Can be found in a limited number of stores, usually needing to be ordered online

Ava 2.0 Softshell Pant with Cell Pouch

Another one of my favorite items is the Ava 2.0 Softshell Pant with Cell Pouch by DSG. These pants are made with a quiet tricot exterior with a fleece interior making them wind-proof while still providing comfort. These pants are good for weather conditions between 40F-60F. These pants also have an adjustable inseam providing any length between 28.5 and 32.5 inches with just the snap of a few buttons. This edition of the Ava softshell pants features the cell phone pouch pocket, keeping your phone in a secure place while providing quick and easy access to it. This cell phone pouch pocket can be easily removed by zipper when not needed.

This past season I used these pants on a number of different outings, always impressed with their warmth, comfort and ability for movement in the field. Unlike men’s hunting pants, these pants fit me perfectly in the hips and waist areas. I wore these pants for both early season and late season hunting, even when temperatures were below 40F. These pants held up for a number of stalks and sits, rarely needing to be adjusted and still look like they are brand new.

Wearing DSG products on my moose hunt kept me comfortable all day long.

    Pros:

    • They come in a variety of camo patterns
    • They are quiet; not making any noises while moving
    • They have multiple pockets; including the special cellphone pouch pocket
    • They have an adjustable inseam
    • They have an incredibly soft interior proving to be comfortable
    • They are warm
    • They are easy to clean
    • They have belt loops if a belt is required
    • They have a 2-year warranty as a result of manufacturing defects
    • Patch kits are available in the event you rip your gear

    Cons

    • Adjustable inseam snaps can come undone in the field if your pant leg gets stuck on something
    • They are a bit costly
    • Can be found in a limited number of stores, usually needing to be ordered online

The cell phone pocket on the Ava 2.0 Softshell Pant with Cell Pouch is one of my favorite features on these pants.

Lace Up Hunting Boot – 600 Gram

When it comes to finding good quality ladies’ footwear for hunting, it can be challenging. I would recommend the Lace Up Hunting Boot – 600 Gram from DSG. These boots are not only comfortable but also stylish, they are anything but bulky while still providing great ankle support and warmth. These boots come in a range of sizes from a women’s size 6-11. They have a gripped sole to provide traction, a 6-inch toe box providing extra room for those with wider feet like myself and are water resistant.

    Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF Scope

I used these boots while hunting in the early season and found them to be incredibly comfortable only breaking them in for a couple of hours prior to my hunt. I was able to put 17km in a day and did not have any blisters. Not only have I worn these boots hunting, I have also worn them to outdoor sporting events. These boots are light and did not cause me to feel weighed down while afield. During my moose hunt this year we were faced with a large amount of unexpected precipitation, now my feet did get wet after wearing these boots in the rainy conditions for a number of hours, but at the end of the day they were not sore and I did not get any blisters. These boots are definitely water resistant but not waterproof. For the late season when the weather starts to get colder, I prefer a warmer boot and would recommend the Lace Up Hunting Boot – 1400 Gram, having all the same features just warmer.

The Lace Up Hunting Boot – 600 Gram can be seen in action here while standing on point on a cool hazy afternoon.

    Pros:

    • They are quick and easy to lace up; do not come untied easily
    • They are rugged and do not scuff easily
    • They are warm
    • They have great grip
    • The laces are high quality and will not break or fray easily
    • They fit relatively wide and did not squeeze me feet
    • They have a 1-year warranty covering any manufacturing defects

    Cons

    • Limited colour selection coming in just Realtree Edge and Nubuck Tan
    • They are a bit costly
    • They are not water proof
    • Can be found in a limited number of stores, usually needing to be ordered online

On a sunny October morning while muzzleloader hunting while wearing the Breanna 2.0 Fleece Pullover kept me warm.

    Cold Weather Neckwarmer

One of my go-to accessories that DSG makes is the Cold Weather Neckwarmer. It is super soft, with the same fleece-lined interior as the Breanna 2.0 Fleece Pullover, it helps with concealing your face while afield while also providing warmth from the elements. It also has an adjustable drawcord allowing you to tighten the neckwarmer so it doesn’t slide down on you.

This past season I used this neck warmer and I can honestly say it is the best neckwarmer/facemask that I have ever used while hunting. I used it in the early season to keep my neck warm and then again in the late season pulling it right up to the bottom of my eyes concealing almost my entire face. With having long hair, I find my hair easily fits under it, without getting in my face or feeling like I am being strangled by the neckwarmer.

    neckwarmer
Featured here is the Cold Weather Neckwarmer, keeping the wind off my neck while calling in a buck.

    Pros:

    • It comes in a variety of camo patterns, black, blaze orange, stone and white
    • It is warm
    • It has an adjustable drawcord
    • It is easy to wash
    • It is comfortable to wear

    Cons

    • It is a bit costly
    • You can easily overheat in the early season
    • Can be found in a limited number of stores, usually needing to be ordered online
    • No stated warranty on website for this product

These clothing items made by DSG are the best hunting clothing a female hunter can find when looking for high quality hunting and outdoor apparel. DSG offers a wide range of products that can be used all season long.

Are these products a bit more costly than your local department store ladies’ hunting clothing? Yes. But does the quality design, comfortable fit and life span of these products out-weigh the cost? Absolutely! These products are high quality and incredible value.

Being comfortable while afield is key to a successful hunt. This is something DSG prides it self on and is definitely a leader in providing women with comfortable, quality gear to enjoy the outdoors in.
