A budget-friendly riflescope that will work at close and far ranges, Sightmark’s Presidio 3-18×50 MR2 has an illuminated etched glass reticle and open-style turrets with zero stop. We recommend giving it a try! The optic you top your rifle with matters. During my 30-plus hunting years, I’ve seen more rifle-mounted optic fails than you can imagine. Some wounds were self-inflicted. Too little or too much torque on the bases, rings, or both can lead to shot-to-shot inconsistencies. Most often, though, the scope was faulty. While optical clarity and magnification weren’t typically an issue, durability was. A ride in a scabbard…
First Impressions The scope is small and light. Sightmark’s website told me it measured 6.299 inches long and weighed a mere 21.6 ounces. When I pulled the optic from the box, I immediately noticed the rugged, gritty-feeling aluminum body material. The objective and ocular lenses come with protective, fold-away caps. Both caps remove easily, and I recommend adding the included longer ocular eye cup, especially if nighttime hunting is the main objective. Each end cap is easily removed for those who want to add their own lens protectors or want to remove them before heading afield. I also like the…
On an elk hunt, nothing is more important than your feet. Improper selection of elk hunting boots will create hot spots and blisters, which will run you off the mountain before you can run carbon or send lead through a big bull. Don’t let that happen. Opt for one of the to-come elk kicks and dominate the terrain. I remember my first archery elk hunt as if it were yesterday. Sadly, it’s not the handful of bugles or the sight of a young 5-point bull raking a tree that jumps to the forefront of my brain. Mostly, I remember the…
The stars aligned, and you finally drew that trophy hunt tag -now what? It’s already happened in some states. Maybe you hit paydirt. Other states will announce soon, and even if you blank, there’s always the chance you win a tag in a trophy hunt drawing. If you’ve persisted and battled through, you’ll eventually find yourself clutching a trophy hunt tag. Whether it’s a tag you’ve been patiently waiting to draw for a decade or more, the moment you receive an email or open the mailbox to find the tag drawing stars aligned, it’s a truly gratifying experience. After calling…
As the number of firearms owners and the number of concealed carry permit holders continues to grow, so does the quest for the perfect holster. Many times local ranges have a fleet of rental guns that buyers can test drive before they lay down their hard-earned cash for just the right gun. Choosing the gun is fairly easy. Choosing a one-size-fits-all holster, on the other hand, is nearly impossible. Go ahead and admit it; if you’ve been a firearm owner and someone who carries a firearm concealed, someplace in your closet, shop, or garage you have a box of holsters…
