Among the essentials, a turkey vest stands out as a crucial piece of equipment that can make or break your hunting experience. The best turkey vests are more than just storage solutions; they are designed to enhance your comfort, organization, and stealth in the field. With features ranging from ample pocket space for calls and ammunition to built-in seats for those long waits, a high-quality turkey vest is an investment that pays dividends in the field.

In this article, we delve into the world of turkey vests, exploring the features that set the best models apart from the rest. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter looking to upgrade your gear or a novice on the lookout for your first vest, our guide will provide valuable insights. From material durability and camouflage patterns to weight distribution and comfort, we cover all the factors you should consider when choosing the perfect turkey vest for your next hunting trip. Join us as we explore the top turkey vests on the market, ensuring you’re well-equipped for the pursuit of the elusive wild turkey.

I went to the NWTF show and took a deep dive into all the new gear out for the year.  New turkey vests for 2025 had a theme of lighter vests more appropriate for run and gun with lots of innovations, but there was a wide diversity of vests available that will suit any turkey hunter and turkey-hunting style. New product brings with it new options and hunters need to check out each to find what is right for them.  Here is a list to help you find the one that’s right for you:

    • Best Overall Turkey Vest: Sitka Equinox Turkey Vest (Shop Now)
    • Best Turkey Vest for the Price: Blocker Outdoors Finisher Pro II Turkey Vest (Shop Now)
    • Best Turkey Vest with a Stadium Seat: Alps  Outdoorz Impact Pro (Shop Now)
    • Best Designed Seat in a Turkey Vest: Final Approach Last Strut (Shop Now)
    • Best Hybrid Turkey Vest: Treezyn Turkey Vest (Shop Now)
    • Most Adaptable Turkey Vest: Chief Upland Flydown (Shop Now)
    • Lightest Turkey Vest: Banded Air Elite (Shop Now)
    • Best Run and Gun Turkey Vest for the Money: Nomad Turkey Vest (Shop Now)

Best Overall Turkey Vest: Sitka Equinox Ergonomical Adjustable Hunting Vest

Sitka’s journey from their initial foray into waterfowl gear to the creation of the Equinox Turkey Vest showcases their relentless pursuit of improvement, and this vest is a testament to that progress. The brand’s evolution is evident in this innovative turkey vest, which I found to excel in multiple areas. Although it leans towards the smaller, more minimalist side for my hunting preferences, the innovation it brings, especially the fully adjustable cam-lock system that ensures a precise vertical fit, is impressive. The vest features an array of pockets, strategically placed for ergonomic access. Despite my preference for zippers due to concerns about magnetic closures accidentally opening, these closures offer quick access.

The vest’s clamshell pockets are a dream for turkey hunters, ergonomically placed and designed to snugly secure your calls, keeping them dry and silent as you navigate the terrain. My initial worries about the magnetic closures were unfounded, as they have proven to be both silent and secure throughout a rigorous season of hunting, without a single unintended opening. This experience might just make an “Old School” zipper enthusiast like me reconsider.

    Pros

    • Ergonomic design
    • Organization of pockets
    • Hydration pocket
    • Pattern goes with multiple Sitka gear and everyone loves Sitka gear

    Cons

    • Price – $269 ain’t cheap

    Where to buy:

    • Amazon Prime for $269

Best Turkey Vest for the Price: Blocker Outdoors Finisher Pro II Turkey Vest (Shop Now)

Blocker, the company best known for its ScentShield deer hunting clothing, entered the turkey hunting clothing with its Finisher Turkey Series. As part of the series, the company introduced its Finisher Pro II turkey vest.

This full feature vest has a multitude of pockets, including a box call pocket, two double pot call pockets, zippered striker pocket, dropdown foam seat, and four interior pockets. In addition, there is a mesh back for hunting in hot weather.

    Pros

    • Pockets for any call, gear, and shell loops
    • Dropdown foam seat
    • Very reasonable price

    Cons

    • Not as much adjustability as some vests
    • No dedicated pockets for water bottles or bladder

    Where to buy:

    • Best Price – Scheel’s Starting at $99

Best Turkey Vest with a Stadium Seat: Alps Outdoorz Impact Pro (Shop Now)

Alps updated its popular Impact Pro vest and is one of a select number of vests with this style of seating. For those who aren’t familiar with it, stadium-style vests have a seat that flips down from the inside of the vest and is strapped to the back. By adjusting the tension on the straps, more back support can be created. Typically, as is the case with the Impact Pro, there is some sort of rigid supports in the back and seat to allow this vest to be used without a tree to lean against but without the weight of kickstands.

The Impact Pro takes the stadium style vest one step further with a molded foam seat and back for additional comfort. It also has removable box and Thermacell pockets that can be moved on the vest through MOLLE webbing.

    Pros

    • Molded foam seat is an improvement on many stadium-style vests.
    • The use of MOLLE webbing to adjust the pockets is unique.
    • Side pockets for water bottles
    • Numerous pockets for pot calls, strikers, mouth calls
    • Has unique large back pocket at the bottom of the game bag.

    Cons

    • Although an improvement over most stadium-style vest seats, this seat still isn’t as comfortable as many seats with thicker cushions.

    Where to buy:

    • Best price seen at Sportsman’s Guide for $129/$116 for members

Best Designed Seat in a Turkey Vest: Final Approach Last Strut Turkey Vest

Final Approach, another company known for its waterfowl decoys, entered the turkey hunting world in a big way with clothing, decoys and a vest. The company’s novice status in the turkey world doesn’t show in the features of its Last Strut Vest.

The most innovative of the features is the unique system to redeploy the seat into the travelling position. There are no clips or magnets but straps that hold the thick foam seat. Lifting the seat is simply a matter of pulling two straps on the front and the seat goes back to its travel position. This isn’t where the innovation stops though – the Last Strut Vest has a built-in decoy bag that attaches on the back in addition to a back pound for carrying a bird.

There are numerous pockets including a box call pocket, a Thermacell pocket that allows the device to be carried while on, an extra pocket on the decoy bag for water or a chair, a box call pocket, pot call pockets, diaphragm call pockets. This vest is designed with no interior pockets so all pockets can be accessed while wearing it. There are other top and side pockets.

    Pros

    • Reasonable price at $150
    • Fully adjustable
    • Air flow back to stay cool.
    • Striker pockets and pockets for all types of calls
    • Thermacell pocket that allows it to be carried while on
    • Removable decoy bag
    • Pull-up seat cushion

    Cons

    • No inside pockets

    Best Place to Buy:

    • Buy at fabrand.com or select retailers for $120

Best Hybrid Turkey Vest: Treezyn Turkey Vest (Shop Now)

Treezyn is not a household name for turkey hunters, but it should be for its unique clothing products with different color accents for the men’s and women’s lines. The vest is a unisex hybrid vest designed both for run and gun and those who prefer to sit.

Treezyn claims their vest has the largest seat cushion on the market and it’s memory foam. The vest has 26 pockets, but it’s unique in that many of the pockets can be accessed by opening two main pockets. All pockets can be accessed without taking the vest off. The vest also has padding on the back and shoulders. It is constructed of waterproof and quiet fabric and is designed to be lightweight at only 3.5 pounds.

    Pros

    • Is designed to be a hybrid vest for run and gun or long sits
    • Quiet and waterproof fabric
    • Lots of pockets for gear, with a unique design that is well thought out
    • Light weight
    • Has a hydration bladder pocket
    • Good amount of adjustability
    • Large seat with memory phone

Factors to Consider When Purchasing a Turkey Vest

When purchasing a turkey vest, several key factors should be considered to ensure you select the best option for your hunting style and needs. A turkey vest is more than just a piece of clothing; it’s an essential gear that can significantly enhance your comfort and efficiency in the field. Here are the crucial factors to consider:

    1. Storage Capacity and Organization: Turkey hunting requires various calls, decoys, ammunition, and other accessories. Look for a vest with ample pockets and compartments designed specifically for these items. Specialized pockets for slate calls, box calls, and strikers, as well as compartments for shells and decoys, can keep your gear organized and easily accessible.
    2. Comfort and Fit: You’ll likely wear your vest for extended periods, so it should be comfortable. Adjustable straps and a design that fits well with your body type will prevent fatigue and discomfort. Pay attention to the vest’s back and shoulder padding, as these areas bear the brunt of your gear’s weight.
    3. Seat Cushion Quality: Many turkey vests come with a built-in seat cushion, which is invaluable during long waits. Look for a cushion that is thick and comfortable, yet durable and easy to deploy. Some cushions are removable, while others are integrated into the vest. The quality of this cushion can greatly affect your comfort during long sits.
    4. Durability: Turkey hunting can involve moving through rugged terrain, so it’s important to choose a vest made from durable materials that can withstand abrasions and tears. Reinforced stitching and high-quality zippers are indicators of a vest built to last.
    5. Camouflage and Stealth: Your vest should blend seamlessly with the environment to keep you hidden from turkeys, which have sharp eyesight. Choose a camouflage pattern that matches the terrain where you’ll be hunting. Additionally, the vest should be quiet; avoid materials that rustle or make noise with movement.
    6. Weight: A lightweight vest is preferable, especially if you plan to cover long distances on foot. However, don’t sacrifice essential features for the sake of reducing weight. Find a balance between lightweight design and the storage and comfort you need.
    7. Safety Features: Safety should never be overlooked. Look for vests with bright orange flags or panels that can be displayed when moving between hunting spots. This is crucial for making yourself visible to other hunters.
    8. Breathability and Weather Resistance: Depending on your hunting environment, you may need a vest that offers ventilation for warmer climates or water resistance for damp conditions. Mesh back panels can provide airflow, while water-resistant materials will keep your gear dry during light rain.
    9. Ease of Use: Consider how easy it is to put on and take off the vest, as well as how quickly you can access your gear. Test the pockets and compartments to ensure they’re easy to open and close, even with one hand.
    10. Price and Value: Finally, balance your budget with the features and quality you need. The most expensive vest isn’t always the best choice for every hunter. Consider which features are must-haves versus nice-to-haves, and find a vest that offers the best value for your investment.

By carefully considering these factors, you can choose a turkey vest that will not only make your hunts more productive but also more enjoyable. Remember, the right vest is a crucial ally in the field, providing not just storage and camouflage, but comfort and convenience throughout your hunting adventure.

    FAQ’s

    1. Why do I need a specific vest for turkey hunting?

Turkey vests are designed with the specific needs of turkey hunters in mind. They feature specialized pockets for various types of calls, ammunition, and other essentials. Moreover, they often include a built-in seat cushion for comfort during long periods of sitting and waiting for turkeys. The organization and functionality of a turkey vest significantly enhance the hunting experience.

    2. How important is camouflage for a turkey vest?

Very important. Turkeys have keen eyesight and can detect even minor movements or inconsistencies in their environment. A good camouflage pattern on your vest helps you blend into your surroundings, making you less visible to turkeys. It’s essential to choose a camouflage pattern that matches the terrain where you’ll be hunting.

    3. Can I just use a regular backpack instead of a turkey vest?

While a backpack can carry your gear, it lacks the specialized features and convenience of a turkey vest. Turkey vests are designed for quick access to calls and equipment without much movement, which can spook turkeys. Additionally, the integrated seat cushion and specific pockets for hunting gear make turkey vests more suited to the activity than regular backpacks.

    4. What’s the best way to clean and maintain my turkey vest?

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning to avoid damaging the material or camouflage pattern. Generally, hand washing or using a gentle cycle in a washing machine with a mild detergent is recommended. Air drying is preferable to preserve the vest’s integrity. Regularly check and clean the pockets, removing any debris or leftover gear to keep the vest in good condition.

    5. How do I choose the right size turkey vest?

Many turkey vests come with adjustable straps, allowing for a broad range of fits. When choosing a vest, consider the layers of clothing you’ll wear underneath, especially in varying weather conditions. It’s best to try on the vest with those layers if possible. Look for a vest that offers adjustability in the shoulders and waist to ensure a comfortable, snug fit without being too tight or restrictive.

    6. Are there turkey vests suitable for women?

Yes, some manufacturers design turkey vests specifically for women, taking into account differences in body shape for a better fit. These vests offer the same functionality and features as men’s vests but are tailored for comfort and efficiency for female hunters.

    7. Is it worth investing in a high-end turkey vest?

It depends on how frequently you hunt and what features you value most. High-end vests often offer superior materials, more advanced features, and better durability. If turkey hunting is a significant hobby for you, investing in a high-quality vest can enhance your comfort and success in the field. However, for casual hunters, a mid-range vest that covers basic needs might be more cost-effective.

    8. Can I use a turkey vest for other types of hunting?

While turkey vests are designed with turkey hunting in mind, their storage capabilities, comfort, and camouflage make them suitable for other types of hunting that require similar gear and stealth. Just be sure to adhere to any specific gear or safety requirements for the type of hunting you’re doing.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, choosing the best turkey vest for 2025 depends on a combination of functionality, comfort, and personal preference. Whether you prioritize ample storage space for your calls and equipment, a comfortable seat for those long waits, or a lightweight design for ease of movement, there is a vest out there that meets your needs. From the innovative designs that offer quick access to gear and enhanced durability to models focused on stealth and comfort, this year’s lineup of turkey vests offers something for every hunter.
